JOB TITLE: Custom Product Engineer – Wright Engineering Group

Exempt Position

REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Wright Engineering Group (WEG) is responsible for a wide range of engineering activities

within the Engineering Department, with a primary focus on custom wire rope trolley hoists. This

includes the design and development of Wright wire rope hoist structures, fabricated components, and

associated electrical control systems. The group also provides technical support to Customer Service,

Distributors, Sales, End Users, the Materials Group, and Manufacturing by responding to requests for

product information, application support, and troubleshooting.


GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engineer and design structural components using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent).
  • Engineer and design control systems and wiring diagrams using 2D CAD tools.
  • Develop order-specific designs and generate CAD drawings, 3D models, bills of material (BOMs), and related documentation for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Provide engineering support to production and manufacturing teams as required.
  • Prepare written technical input for Customer Service to support wire rope hoist system quotations and orders (EDOCS and SPI’s).
  • Participate in the development of design basis documentation, including engineering drawings, calculations, and electrical diagrams, and review the output of other engineers for accuracy and completeness.
  • Respond to technical inquiries from Customer Service, Manufacturing, Sales, Distributors, and End Users, both verbally (phone/in person) and in writing.
  • Perform occasional field support activities, including installation guidance and troubleshooting of products in service.
  • Provide formal written responses to Requests for Information (Blue Forms).
  • Develop and deliver technical training presentations covering product capabilities, limitations, installation, service, and repair. Prepare associated training materials.
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a cross-functional engineering and operations team.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (Or Equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, 2D, 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and standard engineering drawing practices.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to apply engineering principles to real-world designs.
  • Experience or familiarity with electrical systems design and motor controls is a plus.
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes, including machining, welding, and assembly, is preferred.
  • Exposure to applicable industry standards and regulations, including ASME B30.16, with the ability to apply requirements to hoist design and documentation.
  • High attention to detail and strong visual acuity.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods (7+ hours per day).
  • Occasional bending, and squatting,
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
