The Mission
The Digital Modernization Sector has an exciting career opportunity for a Platform Engineering Team Lead to support the USAF Defensive Cyber Systems Program Management Office’s Product Section at Joint Base San Antonio. The Platform Engineer Team Lead position is one of the key technical leadership roles on the team. You will have the opportunity to be the Lead Engineer for major development projects related to data & analytics solutions and platforms. The first project this role will be responsible as Lead Engineer is development of the next generation Internal Developer Platform (IDP) supporting to delivery of Defensive Cyber Capabilities to the customer.
You will be working in a challenging, fast-paced, highly collaborative and rewarding environment, as a member of product and project teams that work closely with each other and with our business partners to deliver innovative and industry-leading business solutions.
On-Site Requirement:
- The position requires on-site presence at Joint Base San Antonio.
Key Tasks
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of platform engineers supporting enterprise software delivery platforms
- Establish platform engineering roadmaps, standards, and best practices.
- Coordinate platform initiatives across development, operations, security, and architecture teams.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts focused on automation, reliability, scalability, and developer productivity.
- Design, implement, and maintain cloud-native platforms using AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, and container technologies.
- Develop reusable platform services and self-service capabilities for application teams.
- Manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
- Ensure platform scalability, resiliency and operational efficiency.
- Lead implementation and governance of enterprise CI/CD pipelines.
- Establish automated build, test, security scanning, compliance validation and deployment processes.
- Implement GitOps practices and deployment automation strategies.
- Integrate security controls and policy enforcement into delivery pipelines.
- Implement and maintain observability solutions, including logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting.
- Establish automated recovery, rollback, and incident response capabilities.
- Monitor platform health, availability, and performance metrics.
- Support production operations and reliability engineering initiatives.
- Ensure platform solutions comply with organizational security and regulatory requirements.
- Support RMF, audit, and compliance initiatives through automated evidence collection and reporting.
- Enforce platform governance, access controls and operational guardrails.
- Maintain documentation, standards and operational procedures.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Systems Engineering or related technical roles.
- 3+ years of experience leading technical teams or engineering initiatives.
- Experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated software delivery processes.
- Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker or other container orchestration technologies.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Knowledge of DevSecOps principles, automation and software delivery best practices.
- Experience implementing monitoring, logging and observability solutions.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading enterprise platform engineering or developer platform initiatives.
- Experience implementing GitOps solutions such as ArgoCD or Flux.
- Experience supporting federal, defense or highly regulated environments.
- Knowledge of RMF, NIST, Zero Trust or compliance-driven software delivery practices.
- Experience with platform governance, policy-as-code and automated compliance validation.
- Experience implementing Kubernetes-based developer platforms or Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs).
- Experience with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and operational excellence programs.
- Professional certifications such as:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
- Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
- Terraform Associate
- Security+
- Experience mentoring engineers and building high-performing technical teams.
- Experience driving cloud modernization and enterprise DevSecOps transformation initiatives

Pay Range:
Pay Range $131,300.00 - $237,350.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
