Accounting Specialist

We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to join a busy construction-focused team in Illinois. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone who thrives in an on-site, fast-moving environment and can support accounting operations while keeping documentation organized and accurate. The role works closely with finance leadership and project staff to help maintain smooth day-to-day financial and administrative processes.

Responsibilities:

• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including invoice handling, payment support, and follow-up on outstanding items.

• Prepare, review, and maintain project-related financial records such as purchase orders, change documentation, service agreements, subcontracts, and billing files.

• Coordinate subcontractor paperwork, including agreements, lien waiver tracking, and related correspondence to support project compliance.

• Assist with weekly union payroll reporting and ensure payroll-related records are completed accurately and on schedule.

• Maintain vendor and job cost documentation in spreadsheets and internal records, ensuring information is current and easy to reference.

• Support accounting and project teams by organizing receipts, tickets, and other backup documents needed for financial processing and reconciliation.

• Use Adobe tools to manage document workflows, including electronic signature routing and finalized file retention.

• Contribute to office and accounting administration in a deadline-driven setting while adapting to shifting priorities and workload demands.

The salary range for this position is $23/hr to $26/hr. Benefits available to contract/temporary professionals, include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance. Qualifications:

• Prior experience in an administrative, accounting support, or clerical role is required.
• Hands-on experience with accounts payable processing is required.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including maintaining logs, tracking vendor information, and preparing basic reports, is required.
• Experience using Adobe for document preparation and electronic signatures is required.
• Familiarity with accounts receivable, billing support, and account reconciliation activities is preferred.
• QuickBooks Desktop experience is a plus.
• Construction industry experience is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently are essential.

Compensation

$23.75-$25.50 Hourly
