Controller

We are looking for an experienced Controller to support a non-profit organization in Charlottesville, Virginia through a Long-term Contract assignment. This role is primarily onsite and will oversee core accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records, and guide the organization through month-end and year-end close activities. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment around financial controls, and hands-on experience with Sage 100.

Responsibilities:

• Lead monthly and annual close processes, ensuring financial results are completed accurately and on schedule.

• Oversee general ledger activity, review account balances, and resolve discrepancies to maintain reliable financial reporting.

• Perform and review cash reconciliations, investigating variances and confirming the integrity of cash records.

• Strengthen and monitor accounting procedures to support effective internal controls and compliance standards.

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations in a primarily onsite environment while providing dependable financial oversight.

• Use Sage 100, Stampli, and Paymerang to support transaction processing, approvals, and accounting workflows.

• Prepare financial information and supporting documentation needed for reporting, audits, and leadership review.

• Coordinate document organization and record maintenance, including scanning, compiling, and controlling accounting files as needed.

Qualifications:

• Prior experience serving as a Controller or senior-level accounting leader in a hands-on environment.
• Strong working knowledge of month-end close, year-end close, general ledger management, and account reconciliation.
• Experience using Sage 100, Stampli, and Paymerang in an accounting or finance setting.
• Solid understanding of internal controls and the ability to apply them across daily accounting activities.
• Ability to work primarily onsite in Charlottesville, Virginia.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain organized financial and supporting documentation.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage deadlines in a Long-term Contract role.

Compensation

$57.00-$66.00 Hourly
