Grant Accountant

Compensation: $28.50 to $33 Hourly

We are looking for a Grant Accountant to join a mission-driven organization in Towson, Maryland in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This role focuses on overseeing the financial administration of grant funding from government and foundation sources, ensuring each award is tracked accurately and managed in accordance with applicable regulations and organizational standards. The position works closely with finance, program, and fundraising partners to support sound budgeting, reporting, and stewardship of restricted funds.

Responsibilities:
• Manage grant activity from initial award setup through final closeout, ensuring accurate financial tracking for federal, state, and foundation funding.
• Review grant expenditures to confirm costs meet funding guidelines and align with approved budgets and allowable use requirements.
• Maintain detailed grant schedules and reconcile grant balances to the general ledger on a consistent basis.
• Prepare financial reports, invoicing, and reimbursement submissions for funders within required deadlines.
• Complete monthly reconciliations, analyze discrepancies, and resolve variances related to grant-funded activity.
• Collaborate with program leaders to develop grant budgets, process revisions, and identify spending concerns before they escalate.
• Provide financial information and budget support for grant applications, including narrative details and supporting documentation.
• Assist with annual audits, funder reviews, and compliance testing by organizing records and responding to financial requests.
• Strengthen internal controls related to restricted funding and contribute to month-end and year-end close activities tied to grants.

Qualifications:

• 3–5 years of experience in grant accounting, with nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
• Practical knowledge of financial reporting for federal and state grants, including reimbursement-based funding.
• Experience monitoring grant spending, reconciling accounts, and maintaining compliance with funding requirements.
• Familiarity with audit support, financial compliance reviews, and documentation for restricted funds.
• Ability to analyze budgets, track allocations, and identify variances in monthly financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for reconciliations, reporting, and financial analysis.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with finance, program, and development stakeholders.

Compensation

$28.50-$33.00 Hourly
