Staff Accountant

We are looking for a Contract Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a healthcare client based in Portland, Maine. This role is well suited for an accounting professional who can manage day-to-day financial activities in Sage Intacct, maintain accurate records, and contribute to tax-related work with consistency and precision. The position offers an opportunity to strengthen accounting processes, assist with budget-related financial tasks, and help ensure timely, accurate reporting.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries to keep financial records current, accurate, and aligned with established accounting standards.

• Reconcile account balances and investigate discrepancies to support clean and reliable general ledger activity.

• Assist with corporate tax-related work, including organizing financial data and supporting return preparation requirements.

• Review payment arrangements and budget-related financial details to help maintain proper documentation and reporting accuracy.

• Compare and reconcile accounting data across QuickBooks and Sage Intacct to identify variances and resolve record inconsistencies.

• Support month-end and periodic close activities by verifying transactions, maintaining schedules, and updating supporting documentation.

• Partner with internal stakeholders to gather financial information, clarify transaction details, and improve day-to-day accounting accuracy.

Qualifications:

• Experience in staff accounting or entry-level accounting roles with exposure to general ledger and account reconciliation work.

• Working knowledge of corporate tax fundamentals and familiarity with corporate tax return support activities.

• Ability to prepare journal entries accurately and maintain organized supporting documentation.

• Hands-on experience reconciling financial records and identifying discrepancies across accounting systems.

• Familiarity with QuickBooks and Sage Intacct, including reviewing data consistency between platforms.

• Strong attention to detail, sound analytical skills, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
