Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a well-established retail food company in Berkeley, California. This contract opportunity is fully onsite and offers the chance to contribute to core accounting activities in a busy, team-focused environment. The role is ideal for an accounting specialist who enjoys maintaining accurate financial records, supporting daily transactions, and helping the finance team meet critical reporting deadlines.

This role is located 100% onsite in Berkeley, CA and is a contract to hire position.

Responsibilities:

• Manage daily accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring transactions are recorded completely and accurately.

• Review, enter, and reconcile invoices, vendor payments, and employee expense submissions in a timely manner.

• Perform bank reconciliations and assist with balancing general ledger accounts to support financial accuracy.

• Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation for routine audits and internal review.

• Contribute to month-end closing tasks, including journal entries, account analysis, and preparation of financial reports.

• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities by compiling financial data and supporting variance analysis.

• Address accounting-related questions from internal departments and external partners with clarity and courtesy.

• Support corporate tax and sales tax-related accounting processes, including maintaining records needed for filings and compliance.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience in a business environment with strong attention to detail.
• Solid knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and core accounting practices.
• Experience preparing journal entries and assisting with month-end close procedures.
• Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting support, and financial data analysis.
• Working knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and related accounting documentation.
• Proficiency with accounting software and strong Excel skills for reconciliation and reporting tasks.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and the ability to consistently meet recurring deadlines.

Compensation

$32.00-$36.00 Hourly
