University Place Hotel is a public hotel, owned and operated by PSU, with approximately 8000 sq. ft. of meeting space, and 234 guest rooms.
Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide excellent customer service to hotel guests during the daily continental breakfast. Responsibilities span the full cycle of service, including preparing food and beverages, setting up the serving line, and cleaning the service, dining, and kitchen areas.

The typical schedule is 20 hours per week across a Sunday-to-Saturday operation, with shifts regularly between 4–6 hours. Standard shift hours run from 5:30 AM to 11:00 AM and includes both weekdays and weekends.

Occasionally, this position offers the flexibility to work additional hours above the assigned FTE to provide assistance to the Sales and Events team with room set up, food preparation, delivering and serving during Clients’ events and the like carried out with efficiency and professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
-One year of experience in a commercial food service utility.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
  • High school education or equivalent
  • Possession of an Oregon Food Handler’s card.
  • Ability to work alone and follow trained procedures and standards.
  • Ability to remain on feet, kneel, bend, stretch, lift, push, and pull throughout shift.
  • Ability to work with minimal to moderate supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to use computer to run, read, and complete routine reports.
  • Availability to work weekends.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language with guests and co-workers to accurately receive and convey information.
  • Ability to clearly communicate by email, phone and in person in a diverse setting.
  • Demonstrate reliable, regular, and predictable work attendance

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years experience in preparing breakfast in a hotel, hospitality, or travel industry

Work Days/Hours Sunday to Saturday, 20 hours per week, schedule will include weekends and weekday, regularly 4-6 hours per shift. May occasionally change based on business needs.
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The starting hourly rate for this position will be $18.06. The starting salary may be negotiable above this rate, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
