Description:

Maps Credit Union is seeking a highly skilled lending professional to contribute to the financial strength and stability of the credit union by providing advanced underwriting expertise across consumer, home equity, and real estate loans. This role ensures sound, well-evaluated credit decisions that align with established policies, risk tolerance, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will also play a key role in strengthening the indirect lending channel through responsive decisioning and strong dealer partnerships. As a senior member of the underwriting team, this individual will provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior underwriters, driving consistency, quality, and efficiency across all lending practices.


Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Process loan applications and obtain reports and information from credit reporting agencies. Examines, evaluates, and decisions or recommends a decision of member loan requests accurately and in accordance with established lending policies and limits.
  • Maintain operations by staying informed of and following policies and procedures; demonstrates a thorough/comprehensive knowledge and understanding of home equity, consumer, and real estate loan policies and procedures and applicable laws and regulations. Reports changes as needed. 
  • Creates, builds, manages and maintains effective, trusted relationships with vehicle dealers and local merchants - representing the Credit Union in a highly professional manner.
  • Performs loan related duties as assigned including filing, title work, title releases, payment corrections, income tax analysis, loan payoff calculations, collateral valuations, new loan processing, and loan modifications.  
  • Provides superior member service. Corresponds, and coordinates with fellow staff, third parties, and vendors to facilitate timely loan underwriting, processing, and funding.
  • Partners with and supports loan officers and processors; acts as a subject matter expert for staff on all consumer lending related functions. 
  • Assist with training staff in lending processes and procedures.
  • Identifies cross sell opportunities and offers appropriate products and services to members while reviewing credit reports.
  • Consistently communicate with the Lending Center Manager on department operations, making recommendations for process improvements. 
  • Enhance job performance by applying up-to-date professional and technical knowledge gained by attending training sessions, reviewing professional publications, and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Act as a role model for appropriate behavior, genuinely participate in the decision-making process of the Credit Union’s future while helping staff to recognize and understand the reasoning behind leadership decisions.
  • Assist in development of employees by seeking coaching opportunities
  • Understand and communicate to staff regarding lending, sales, service and organizational objectives; assist with providing leadership, training staff, and problem solving.
  • Supports inter- and intra-departmental operations and workflow by providing assistance, information, and cooperation.
  • Follow regulatory and policy compliance requirements, which include those efforts in compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Regulations, Identity Theft Red Flags and other compliance-related policies.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required: 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person, and over the phone.
  • Demonstrated presentation/public speaking capability.
  • Accurate typing/keyboarding skills; intermediate computer skills, including the use of word processing and spreadsheet software applications and e-mail.
  • Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; good time-management, problem-prevention, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain flexible in order to adapt to changes in work environment.
  • Ability to coach and mentor team members.
  • Ability to cross-sell Credit Union services effectively and accurately.
  • Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to work with co-workers, members, and outside agencies professionally and tactfully.
  • Possess a work ethic that includes neatness, punctuality, and accuracy.

  • Knowledge of Credit Union system, Maps, and financial industry. 
  • Extensive knowledge of consumer, home equity, and real estate lending practices and procedures
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.

Qualifications:

  • An Associate's degree in business related college-level courses or seven years combination of experience and financial industry-specific training in lending or finance.
  • Minimum five years in credit evaluation/consumer underwriting experience with demonstrated progressive responsibilities. 
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a senior or lead role providing team coaching and training.
  • Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Requires the availability to work Monday – Saturday hours.

Non-exempt starting salary range: $33.50 - $37.00 per hour, depending on relevant experience.


Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:30pm. Alternating Fridays from 9:00am- 6:00pm & alternating Saturdays from 8:30am-5:00pm.  This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (2 days remote and 3 days onsite) after successful completion of a 90-day training period.
