Overview:

This position supports Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Shipping and Receiving as well as Commercial Sales and Field Service teams.

The position will assist in maintaining quality measures, standards, processes, and procedures relating to business needs.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Promote a safe work environment by adopting, following, and auditing company safety policies and GMP’s.
  • Reinforces positive safety behaviors while working to reduce incidents and escalate to management any safety concerns to promote a safe working culture and environment.
  • Inputs data relating to customer complaints, following up with the relevant manager to ensure that corrective and preventative actions have been implemented.
  • Analyzes Proficient data to identify trends and provide a resource to preventative actions.
  • Reviews and helps problem solve/troubleshoot material and processes problems that impact product quality.
  • Documents all material quality problems and work with Production Supervisors to resolve the core issues.
  • Participates and coordinates product Hold & Release decisions as needed.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and presents information concerning factors such as production capabilities, manufacturing problems, and design and development of new products for consideration by other members of management team.
  • Suggests and debate alternative methods and procedures in problem solving.
  • Assists Quality Manager with complaint database, root cause and corrective action or internal non-conformances by providing knowledge, experience and forward thinking.
  • Maintains laboratory and operations testing equipment and equipment matrix.
  • Assists with R&D projects/trials relating to specific products or raw material qualification.
  • Participate in teams/committees as needed.
  • Assists with follow-up on customer complaints; for example, inspecting returned goods, verifying count of returned samples.
  • Determines disposition of finished products and incoming raw materials by collecting, classifying, analyzing and interpreting production and quality data; product acceptability based on internal/external customer requirements, and/or internal product specification.
  • Displays high level troubleshooting aptitude; able to identify process/extrusion issues.
  • Apply 80/20 principals to daily operations, in line with overall Business Strategy.
  • Assure that all current and relevant specifications, instructions, and pertinent documentation are available for product/service and process.
  • Demonstrates computer and Microsoft Office skills recommended for the position.
  • Ensure that all production setup standards are current and relevant.
  • Employees shall adhere to and promote compliance responsibilities to the content outlined in the Food Safety Management System which is in accordance with the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing of Food Packaging.
  • Internal audit verification. (GMP, Glass & Brittle etc.)
  • Operational inspection. (visual and swabbing)
  • Maintain and inventory laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor and report plant food safety to Quality Management.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED. Bachelors preferred.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and understand Extrusion technical procedures, or food safety regulations. Ability to write reports, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of Managers, Sales, Operations, Engineering.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and basic math to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Computer Skills:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet Navigation Abilities, and Microsoft office.

Compensation Information:

The hourly range for a QA/QC Technician is $21.00 to $24.00.  The pay rate for a successful candidate will depend on the geographic location, this pay range is for a successful candidate in the Chicagoland area.  The specific hiring rate within the posted range will depend on the candidate's qualifications and prior experience.
