Payroll Administrator

Knoxville, TN 37923, US Contract
Compensation: $25 to $29 Hourly

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator to support a large healthcare organization in Knoxville, Tennessee. This contract opportunity is ideal for a payroll specialist who can quickly step into a fast-moving environment and manage complex payroll operations with accuracy and consistency. The role offers the chance to work with a collaborative internal team while making an immediate impact on payroll delivery for a sizable employee population.

Responsibilities:
• Administer end-to-end payroll processing for a large, multi-state workforce of approximately 5,000 to 6,000 employees.
• Coordinate payroll execution across weekly, biweekly, and monthly schedules while meeting strict processing deadlines.
• Calculate and validate pay components such as shift premiums, multiple position assignments, garnishments, and other specialized deductions.
• Audit payroll records before final submission to confirm accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable regulations.
• Investigate payroll questions and discrepancies, then resolve issues promptly in partnership with employees and internal stakeholders.
• Work closely with HR, benefits, finance, and operations teams to address payroll-related needs and maintain smooth day-to-day processing.
• Prepare payroll reports, support reconciliations, and assist with audit activities to strengthen payroll controls and documentation.
• Contribute knowledge and guidance as a senior member of the payroll team, helping promote efficient processes and reliable payroll operations.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of payroll experience, including full-cycle payroll processing.
• Proven background handling high-volume payroll in a large organizational setting.
• Working knowledge of payroll requirements across multiple states and applicable compliance standards.
• Experience managing varied pay frequencies along with complex earning structures such as shift differentials and multiple job codes.
• Familiarity with payroll systems and related tools, including platforms such as Lawson and workforce management applications.
• Understanding of garnishments, general ledger impacts, and special payroll deductions.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment; healthcare or other large enterprise experience is preferred.

Compensation

$25.00-$29.00 Hourly
