Status: Full time Location: Greater Hartford, CT Compensation:

  • Unlicensed: starting at $54,000 (Bilingual: $56,000) - **Supervision toward Licensure is provided!

  • Licensed: starting at $67,200 (Bilingual: $69,20

Summary

The Early Childhood Consultant (ECC) provides mental health consultation to early childcare providers, educators, and families. This role focuses on promoting positive early childhood mental health, strengthening child–caregiver relationships, and supporting childcare programs in preventing suspension and expulsion. The ECC represents The Village with professionalism and adheres to all agency policies, best practices, and confidentiality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Child Risk Intervention — Partner with childcare staff to identify and support children (birth–five) at risk of suspension or expulsion.

  • Developmental Expertise — Serve as a resource on early childhood development, emotional and behavioral health, and child–parent relationships.

  • Environmental Assessments — Conduct assessments to support children identified as at risk.

  • Provider Coaching — Deliver culturally responsive coaching to early childcare providers.

  • Individualized Plans — Complete assessments and develop plans involving providers, children, and families.

  • Referral Support — Assist staff with referrals for specialized services.

  • Training & Meetings — Participate in statewide meetings, training modules, and supervisory observations.

  • Family & Community Liaison — Facilitate communication between families, providers, and community agencies.

  • Systems-Level Prevention — Engage in Systems of Care/Community Collaboratives.

  • Community Education — Deliver community presentations on early childhood topics.

  • Reporting — Provide required data and documentation.

  • Ethics & Confidentiality — Uphold HIPAA standards and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.

  • Perform additional duties as needed to support program operations.

Experience and Skills

Required Education

  • Master’s degree in a Human Services field (Psychology, Social Work, Marriage & Family Counseling).

Required Experience & Competencies

  • Expertise in early childhood development, emotional/behavioral health, family systems, attachment, trauma, and developmental disabilities.

  • Familiarity with early childhood care and education systems.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).

  • Strong written, verbal, training, and public speaking skills.
