Your Mission:
Responsible for supervising the manufacturing engineering team and coordinating engineering activities that support product design, steel processing, fabrication, and assembly operations. This role oversees the development of manufacturing documentation, provides technical guidance to engineers, and ensures manufacturing processes align with product design intent and production requirements.
The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor works closely with production, quality, supply chain, and project management teams to support manufacturing performance, drive continuous improvement, and ensure efficient use of manpower, materials, and machines. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment while improving productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
Explore the Depth of the Role:
- Supervise daily activities of the manufacturing engineering team, including Manufacturing Engineers I, II, III, and Lead.
- Assign engineering tasks, balance workloads, and monitor progress of engineering support for production and projects.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers in areas such as fabrication processes, tooling, fixturing, and manufacturability.
- Review and approve work packages that define manufacturing sequences, part routings, and product structures within ERP systems.
- Oversee the development and review of engineering drawings, fixtures, tooling designs, and manufacturing documentation.
- Support engineering teams in performing material takeoffs and defining manufacturing requirements for projects.
- Ensure effective programming and utilization of cutting machines and nesting software to maximize material efficiency and production flow.
- Coordinate with production supervisors and operations leadership to resolve manufacturing issues and improve process efficiency.
- Participate in technical reviews of design disclosures to ensure specifications and requirements are properly implemented in manufacturing documentation.
- Support cross-functional teams in resolving design-for-manufacturing and production challenges.
- Interface with customers and vendors when manufacturing engineering support is required.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, cost reduction, quality improvements, and process optimization.
- Support implementation of best practices, standard work, and manufacturing engineering procedures.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements within manufacturing operations.
- Participate in employee development activities including training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Mission Readiness:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) from an accredited college, university, or technical school preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, fabrication, or production environments, including demonstrated experience providing technical guidance or coordinating engineering activities.
- 1+ years supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
- 5+ years of SolidWorks experience.
- 5+ years of AutoCAD experience.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to mentor and develop engineering staff.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Advanced knowledge of fabrication and assembly practices, tooling, and fixturing.
- Strong understanding of production scheduling, shop operations, and manufacturing workflows.
- Experience collaborating with vendors, customers, and internal cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing operational priorities and business needs.
- Proficiency with computer systems and engineering software tools.
- Preferred experience with ERP systems, shop floor control, production planning, and inventory control applications.
Travel Requirements:
- Between facilities as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- May be required to stand, walk, sit, reach/pull/push with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel regularly.
- May lift or carry 50lbs. Weights exceeding 50lbs will require mechanical means to maneuver.
