Controller - Monmouth County, NJ
Salary: $160k-210k + bonus
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Controller to lead the corporate accounting function and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role will be heavily focused on general ledger oversight, financial close, and corporate accounting operations, with responsibility for maintaining a strong control environment and supporting executive decision-making.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting leader with deep technical expertise in GAAP, financial reporting, and multi-entity accounting, and a proven ability to manage and improve core accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Corporate Accounting
- Oversee all aspects of the general ledger, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage corporate-level accounting activities, including intercompany transactions, consolidations, and eliminations
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure proper support and resolution of variances
- Maintain and enforce consistent accounting policies and procedures
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate completion
- Drive continuous improvements to shorten close timelines and enhance reporting quality
- Prepare and review internal financial reports and variance analyses for leadership
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and corporate reporting standards
Technical Accounting & Compliance
- Research, interpret, and implement technical accounting guidance (GAAP)
- Maintain a strong internal control environment and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
- Coordinate and manage external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation
- Ensure proper documentation of accounting positions and processes
Operational Accounting Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, fixed assets, and cash accounting
- Monitor cash activity, bank reconciliations, and liquidity reporting
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff
- Ensure accuracy of transactional accounting and proper cutoff procedures
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and accuracy
- Optimize use of ERP systems and reporting tools
- Partner cross-functionally to improve data integrity and reporting capabilities
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role
- Strong expertise in general ledger accounting, financial close, and corporate reporting
- Experience in multi-entity and consolidation accounting environments
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls
- Advanced Excel skills; ERP system experience required
- Proven ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
