Paralegal
Responsibilities:
• Prepare, organize, and submit formal pleadings and supporting documents for probate and surrogate court matters in accordance with court requirements.
• Coordinate service of legal documents to family members, beneficiaries, and other interested parties, ensuring proper notice and accurate documentation.
• Monitor court calendars, hearing schedules, and response deadlines so cases remain on track and all required actions are completed promptly.
• Communicate regularly with surrogate court staff, probate judge chambers, and related court contacts to support case progress and resolve filing questions.
• Assemble case materials, maintain complete legal files, and update case management systems with current status, deadlines, and correspondence.
• Assist attorneys with probate litigation, discovery activities, and trial preparation by gathering records and organizing exhibits and filings.
• Support estate administration workflows by tracking closed matters and preparing the necessary closing or follow-up court submissions.
• Review pleadings and legal documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance before filing with the court.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3-5 years of paralegal experience, including prior work in a law firm setting.• Hands-on experience with probate, estate administration, and matters involving surrogate or chancery court proceedings.
• Demonstrated ability to draft pleadings, manage court filings, and coordinate legal documentation from initiation through hearing preparation.
• Working knowledge of civil litigation processes, including discovery support and trial preparation.
• Experience tracking deadlines, hearing dates, and court responses with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
• Proficiency with case management software and maintaining organized legal records in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with attorneys, court staff, clients, and interested parties.
