Sr Interconnection Specialist

Salary Grade: G05
Minimum  Midpoint  Maximum
$94,831 - $128,022 - $161,213

This position is covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards.  Prior to being hired, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check.  Prior to being granted unguideed access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training.

SUMMARY: 

Leads the technical implementation, coordination, and configuration of complex metering systems and projects, including large-scale and high-impact initiatives. Serves as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor, providing technical guidance, consultation, and support across Transmission Engineering, Operations, and external stakeholders.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Lead coordination and implementation of metering requirements for Renewable Interconnector generation and Utility Intertie projects

Perform advanced configuration and programming of equipment and support commissioning activities

Review and interpret complex meter telemetry and provide recommendations to leadership

Maintain and improve transmission and distribution station metering standards

Develop metering and communications diagrams and documentation

Act as subject matter expert for advanced metering design, and negotiations with interconnectors on behalf of PNM.

Coordinate with other disciplines among the Transmission Engineering Department

Maintain CALISO and NERC CIP compliance and regulatory requirements

Represent metering standards on the Transmission Standards Committee

Develop and maintain metering standards and related practices

Assist in Contractor selections and provide responses to requests for information


COMPETENCIES: 
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, IONSetup, and SEL AcSELerator; ability to work in high-voltage environments


QUALIFICATIONS                    

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  

Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university with 5-7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to utility metering 

Knowledge of engineering standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC);

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Possession of a valid driver¿s license

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:  

Advanced written and verbal interpersonal skills to effectively communicate technically complex concepts with internal and external stakeholders.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:   

Basic Algebra required with some calculus preferred.
          

      
COMPUTER SKILLS:    

Ability to create and refine scoping documents and technical specifications. Request quotes and develop material requests in PNM¿s procurement system.

Understanding of serial and ethernet LAN communications for connecting to devices and programming equipment via direct or remote connections.



ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:  

Analyze complex single line diagrams and determine required metering systems. Parse metering data to separate wholesale and retail values and ensure accurate transmission to MV90 and CAISO.


DECISION MAKING:

Work independently to determine best practices, including CAISO redundancy requirements, equipment selection (CTs, CVTs), and specifications based on application conditions.


SCOPE AND IMPACT:

Resolve high-profile metering issues affecting revenue accuracy, including discrepancies that may result in significant financial impact or legal exposure.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Includes standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, and outdoor exposure. Requires PPE such as hard hat, FR clothing, safety glasses, and hearing protection.



WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Office environment, includes field work
