Senior Accountant (Nonprofit)
About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established nonprofit organization in the NW metro, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its finance team. This position is onsite and offers the opportunity to take ownership of key accounting processes, contribute to financial reporting and budgeting, and collaborate closely with leadership to support the organization’s financial health and operational goals.
The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit accounting experience, a detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to work both independently and cross-functionally in a mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Maintain the general ledger and perform detailed balance sheet and revenue account reconciliations
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies to ensure accuracy of financial data
- Partner with internal teams to ensure accurate payroll accounting, benefits recording, and related reporting
- Assist with budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis
- Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for external audits and financial reviews
- Provide financial analysis and ad hoc reporting to support leadership decision-making
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist finance leadership with process improvements and special projects
- Provide backup support for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
- Ensure financial records and procedures comply with GAAP and internal controls
- Support continuous improvement of financial systems, processes, and reporting
Qualifications:
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience working within a nonprofit organization, including familiarity with fund accounting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Experience with general ledger management, account reconciliations, and audit preparation
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
Preferred
- Experience working within the education or school sector
Compensation
