Position Description

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Department of Surgery is seeking a part-time transplant surgeon to help provide coverage in our new program, serving a large region of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico that has previously not had access to transplantation. Initially aimed at kidney transplants, this program will fill a huge unmet need in this region, provide an opportunity to build a regional center of excellence, and develop an enduring legacy in collaboration with the transplant nephrology team.

The successful candidate must be BE/BC in General Surgery with Fellowship training in Transplant Surgery. The candidate should have exemplary clinical skills, a team spirit, collegiality and an interest in teaching and/or scholarly activity. This is an academic faculty position, and rank will be assigned based on TTUHSC tenure and promotion guidelines.

The department is active in both basic science and clinical research, and our medical school was recently ranked #1 nationally among graduates as "The best place to learn". Surgical education is a core mission of the department, and the acute care surgery section works closely with general surgery residents and medical students, in addition to advanced practice providers. There is extensive support for research, with the TTUHSC Clinical Research Institute supporting study design development, IRB and other regulatory submissions, subject recruitment, trained research nurses and statistical analysis at no cost to the investigator.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Evaluates, perform operations and manages care of patients donating and receiving kidney transplants; and
  • Participates in multidisciplinary collaboration with nephrology team, nursing, social workers, etc.


Required Qualifications

  • MD/DO/MBBS/MBBCh.
  • Completion of USMLE Step 3.
  • Board certified or eligible in Surgery.
  • Completion of an American Society of Transplant Surgeons accredited Fellowship in transplantation.
