Plant Controller
A client of ours is looking for a Plant Controller for a contract role to oversee all accounting and financial operations at the plant level. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, maintains effective internal controls, and supports operational leadership with financial insights that drive performance, cost management, and strategic decision-making. The Plant Controller partners closely with plant leadership to improve financial efficiency, monitor key performance indicators, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities of Plant Controller
- Execute timely and accurate monthly close processes, ensuring financial integrity
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
- Lead and coordinate the annual financial audit with external auditors
- Oversee inventory accounting, ensuring accuracy of physical inventory and valuation
- Partner with plant operations to track KPIs, support cost reduction efforts, and drive operational efficiencies
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies
- Analyze financial trends, costs, revenues, and variances to support forecasting and planning
- Develop annual budgets and monitor performance against forecasts
- Prepare financial forecasts, business reports, and ad hoc analyses for leadership decision-making
- Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, AR/AP, invoicing, procurement, and payroll
- Ensure payroll transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled in the general ledger
- Manage outsourced services including payroll and tax functions
- Ensure timely and accurate filing and payment of state and federal taxes
- Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements to increase efficiency
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff and support team development
- Communicate financial performance and recommendations to senior leadership
Qualifications:
Skills/Qualifications of Plant Controller
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited university required
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing or plant environment
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Advanced skills in accounting, corporate finance, and financial analysis
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- High attention to detail with strong data management and analytical capabilities
- Proven ability to analyze financial data and present actionable insights
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Excellent time management skills with ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with ability to interact with cross-functional teams
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with integrity
- Customer-focused mindset with strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
