Payroll Specialist

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to support high-volume payroll operations for a large hourly workforce in California. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who can manage payroll with accuracy, maintain compliance across multiple states, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The right candidate will bring strong end-to-end payroll expertise, attention to detail, and confidence using payroll and HRIS platforms.

Responsibilities:

• Process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 1,500 hourly employees with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness.

• Oversee full-cycle payroll activities, including data review, calculations, audits, adjustments, and final payroll submission.

• Administer payroll for employees working across multiple states while ensuring compliance with applicable wage and tax requirements.

• Review time and attendance records, resolve discrepancies, and confirm payroll inputs are complete before each processing cycle.

• Manage payroll-related inquiries through a ticketing system and provide timely, thorough support to employees and internal stakeholders.

• Use Rippling to maintain payroll records, execute payroll processing tasks, and support ongoing payroll administration.

• Contribute to payroll-related Workday activities, including time attendance coordination and payroll processing support as needed.

• Identify and resolve payroll issues proactively while maintaining accurate documentation and audit-ready records.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in payroll, including end-to-end payroll processing responsibilities.
• Demonstrated success handling high-volume payroll for workforces exceeding 500 employees.
• Hands-on experience processing payroll for hourly employees on a bi-weekly schedule.
• Strong working knowledge of multi-state payroll practices, payroll compliance, and tax considerations.
• Experience using Rippling for payroll administration and processing.
• Familiarity with Workday HRIS, particularly in areas related to time tracking and payroll support.
• Solid understanding of attendance tracking and timekeeping review processes.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Compensation

$30.00-$35.00 Hourly
