Senior Payroll Specialist

A growing professional services and project-based organization is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to oversee payroll administration, compliance reporting, payroll reconciliations, and payroll-related accounting functions. This position will serve as a key resource within the accounting and HR teams and will play an important role in maintaining payroll accuracy across multiple departments and projects. The ideal candidate has experience managing complex payroll processes, supporting compliance requirements, and handling payroll-related financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Operations

• Process weekly and biweekly payroll for a multi-state employee population
• Review payroll data for accuracy, including earnings, deductions, taxes, and employee changes
• Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with company policies and regulations
• Audit payroll reports and reconcile payroll balances prior to processing

Compliance & Project Reporting

• Support certified payroll and project-based reporting requirements
• Monitor labor classifications, wage rates, and payroll compliance documentation
• Prepare payroll reports for management, clients, and regulatory agencies
• Assist with payroll audits and compliance reviews

Accounting & Reconciliations

• Perform payroll account reconciliations and assist with month-end close activities
• Support accounts payable processing and vendor payment coordination
• Maintain payroll-related general ledger reconciliations
• Assist with process improvements and system enhancements

Qualifications:

• 4+ years of payroll experience required
• Experience with certified payroll, project accounting, or compliance reporting preferred
• Strong understanding of payroll taxes and wage regulations
• Experience with ADP, UKG, Paylocity, Vista, or similar payroll systems
• Advanced Excel skills required
• CPP or FPC certification highly preferred
