SCOPE
The R&D Food Technologist will use a mix of culinary arts and scientific knowledge to create new recipes that meet customers nutritional and pricing requirements. They will also need to present new items to a cross functional team for feedback and project direction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Creating bench top samples for internal review.
  • Recording lot information on raw materials used in the lab.
  • Heating samples and setting up sensory panels.
  • Sourcing raw materials from the plant
  • Assisting other R&D team members with plant trials.
  • Evaluating raw materials submitted by new vendors.
  • Carrying out other support functions and activities as required.
SUCCESS CRITERIA
  • Safety/GMP/Food Safety/Quality policies followed.
  • Attendance requirements met.
  • Accurately measuring ingredients and following recipe procedures.
  • Understand functional ingredient applications.
  • Ability to develop a product that meets customer criteria within cost constraints.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Food Science, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in food manufacturing.
  • 3-5 years of experience in product development.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to read and interpret food formulations and directions.
  • Knowledge of GMP's, USDA, and OSHA regulations and BRC requirements.
  • Skill in using a personal computer and various software applications.
  • Skill in being a self-starter.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Reaching, and lifting 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in cold, humid environments with temperatures ranging from 40 to 90 degrees.
  • Exposure to noise levels greater than 85 decibels
  • Exposure to slippery and wet conditions
  • This position is an onsite position.
