Position Description

Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions

Patient Evaluation & Diagnosis
  • Conducts detailed patient interviews and medical histories.
  • Performs comprehensive physical examinations and compiles medical data.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests (e.g., X-rays, EKGs, lab work) to identify health concerns.
Clinical Procedures & Treatment
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as:
    • Injections and immunizations
    • Wound care and suturing
    • Infection management
  • Develops and implements patient care plans.
  • Documents progress and supports continuity of care.
Patient Education & Counseling
  • Educates patients on treatment plans, medication adherence, and health maintenance.
  • Provides counseling on lifestyle factors and emotional challenges related to daily living.
Emergency Care
  • Provides emergency medical services independently when necessary, including urgent diagnosis and treatment, until a physician arrives.


Occasional Duties

  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
