Powertrain Controls Onboard Diagnostic Subsystem Engineer

Currently, we are seeking a Powertrain Controls Onboard Diagnostic Subsystem Engineer in our Dearborn, Michigan location.

Responsibilities:

Design, validate, and maintain on-board diagnostics (OBD-II) for engine controls. This is a design and development opportunity for an individual interested in engineering OBD-II subsystems. OBD-II is organized into major diagnostic monitors such as adaptive fuel, catalyst, evaporative system, misfire, EGR/VCT, O2 sensors, and comprehensive components monitors. This work is challenging because OBD-II is a government regulation that is always changing.

  • Developing control system specifications to meet regulatory requirements
  • Working in a hands-on environment to design and validate that diagnostic system hardware and software meet requirements
  • Author calibration guidelines
  • Support subsystem feature team meetings to present new concepts and resolve issues
Job Requirements:


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in developing engine diagnostic or control systems
  • 2+ years of experience in product development system engineering principles
  • 2+ years of experience in basic principles of controls engineering
  • 1+ years of experience and knowledge of and testing techniques
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science Engineering
  • Working knowledge of basic combustion engine operating principles
  • Familiarity with software integration and debug
  • Experience performing vehicle, dynamometer & software debugging
  • Practical ability to test, debug, and validate software in vehicle and dynamometer settings
  • Proactive individual, outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional work planning and data analysis skills
  • Engine or OBD-II calibration experience preferred
  • Personal computer skills with major applications such as EXCEL and MATLAB experience
  • Experience developing embedded diagnostic or control algorithms
  • Experience using Ford internal tools to develop, implement and release feature code
  • Expertise in use of calibration development tools
  • Familiarity with and access to Ford Motor Company test facilities
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills
  • Successful candidate should be able to demonstrate leadership in One FORD (leadership) behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills
